چکیده

This paper surveys components that are useful to build programmable, predictable, composable, and scalable multiprocessor-system-on-a-chip (MPSoC) multimedia platforms that can deliver high performance at high power-efficiency. A design-time tool flow is proposed to exploit all forms of parallelism on such platforms. As a first proof of concept, the flow is used to parallelize a relatively simple video standard on a platform consisting of off-the-shelf components. As a second proof of concept, we present the design of a high-performance platform with state-ofthe-art components. This platform targets real-time H.264 high-definition video encoding at an estimated power consumption of 700mW. We rewrote the abstract as asked. * Response to Reviewer Comments

ATLAS - An Environment for NoC Generation and Evaluation

MPSoC is becoming a much more prevalent design style, to achieve tight time-to-market design goals, to maximize design reuse, to simplify the verification process and to provide flexibility and programmability for post-fabrication reuse of complex platforms[6]. Networks-on-chip (NoCs) are employed as the communication infrastructure able to handle MPSoC communication requirements due to its sca...

Programming Heterogeneous MPSoCs using MAPS

Programming heterogeneous MPSoCs (Multi-Processor Systems on Chip) is a grand challenge for SoC providers and users today. The HW integration level of commercial MPSoC platforms increases at a fast pace. However, lacking tools to support MPSoC programming results in a much slower pace of SW productivity, which hampers deploying MPSoCs significantly. In this paper, we introduce the MAPS (MPSoC A...

Hardware/software support for adaptive work-stealing in on-chip multiprocessor

During the past few years, embedded digital systems have been requested to provide a huge amount of processing power and functionality. A very likely foreseeable step to pursue this computational and flexibility trend is the generalization of on chip multiprocessor platforms (MPSoC). In that context, choosing a programming model and providing optimized hardware support to it on these platforms ...

An Automated Flow to Map Throughput Constrained Applications to a MPSoC

This paper describes a design flow to map throughput constrained applications on a Multiprocessor System-on-Chip (MPSoC). It integrates several state-of-the-art mapping and synthesis tools into an automated tool flow. This flow takes as input a throughput constrained application, modeled with a synchronous dataflow graph, a C-based implementation for each actor in the graph, and a template base...

Design of Flexible Audio Processing Platforms using the System-on-Chip Environment

This report demonstrates application of the System-onChip Environment (SCE) towards the design of hardware/software platforms for real-time audio processing following MP3, AAC, and AC3 decoding standards. Starting from C reference implementations, well-defined specification models are developed and fed into an SCE-based design space exploration and synthesis flow. Models are synthesized down to...
